Peacing Life Together

The devastation of Katrina is measured poorly. The loss of a house may
register a certain financial value, but how do we measure the worth of a
home? A lost job may be recorded as lost income on the books, but how
can we measure the loss of the reason someone gets up each morning? And
the nameless dead may become statistics on paper, but never in the
hearts of those left behind.

Just as devastation is beyond measure, so is the effort of those who
come to help. People from all nationalities, all walks of life, all
religious beliefs…and no religious beliefs, come together to offer
themselves, sacrificially. Of course there is looting and political
positioning but they don’t dampen the impressive response to this
disaster.

As much of the world faces violence and armed conflict and seeks an
elusive peace, I think we may learn something from those piecing
together their lives with the help of complete strangers. We all need
something within us inspired by that which is around us. It is then we
may work together and achieve the peace that is so often beyond us.

Peace,

Robb
